Actress Eucharia Anunobi Opens Up About Son’s Death and Life as a Single Mother

Eucharia Anunobi, the well-known Nollywood actress and evangelist, has finally spoken out about the tragedy that changed her life—the death of her only son, Raymond Ekwu, and the pain of going through it alone.

She didn’t hold back. Anunobi described her heartbreak over what happened in the hospital back in 2017. She says a trainee doctor made a terrible mistake when Raymond needed a blood transfusion to help his condition. Instead, the doctor took blood out—three full pints.

“The student doctor did blood extraction instead of blood transfusion and removed three pints of my son’s blood,” Anunobi said.

It’s hard to even imagine. A simple procedure meant to help ended up taking everything from her, all because of one person’s error.

But the pain didn’t stop there. Anunobi also talked about her difficult journey as a single mom. She says her ex-husband, Charles Ekwu, was never there for their son—not with time, not with money.

She put it plainly: “I was the one paying the rent and doing everything. Charles never brought one naira.”

Raymond died at just 15, after battling sickle cell anemia. Since then, Anunobi has used her voice to call for better medical care and to reach out to other parents who know the agony of losing a child.

Her story has gotten people talking online—about hospitals that need to do better, and about parents who walk away from their responsibilities, even in the spotlight.
