South Africa 🇿🇦 : Podcaster Penuel Sparks Controversy with Hypothetical Scenario of Trump Arresting Ramaphosa

Controversial South African podcaster and social commentator Penuel Mlotshwa, popularly known as Penuel The Great, has sent shockwaves through social media after posting a vivid, hypothetical "news report" imagining the forced removal of President Cyril Ramaphosa by the United States.

In a lengthy post on X (formerly Twitter), Penuel painted a cinematic picture of a US-led intervention in South Africa, drawing direct parallels to the American government’s historical pressure on leaders like Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro.

Penuel’s post was structured as a series of "breaking news" updates, detailing a fictional military strike on Johannesburg and the subsequent capture of the President and First Lady.

Ramaphosa is "accused" of leading a drug cartel, money laundering via the Phala Phala scandal, and responsibility for the Marikana massacre.

US President Donald Trump holds a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, revealing that he had authorized covert CIA operations in South Africa over several years.

The US takes control of South African mines to "ensure they can make good money for the USA."

"

While the post was presented as a creative exercise—imagining a world where South Africa’s internal controversies meet aggressive US foreign policy—it has ignited a firestorm of debate.

"Many South Africans have taken to the streets to celebrate the capture of Ramaphosa, & the demise of the ANC," Penuel wrote, describing a polarized nation's reaction to his fictional coup.

The podcaster’s "End" tag at the conclusion of the thread clarified that this was a speculative piece, but the use of real-world scandals like Phala Phala, the Madlanga Commission, and the Marikana tragedy gave the post a stinging political edge.

The post has divided South African netizens. While some followers praised Penuel for his "bold storytelling" and critique of the current administration’s failures, others slammed the podcaster for being "reckless" and "irresponsible" by sharing a narrative that includes the bombing of a major city and the violation of national sovereignty.

This is not the first time Penuel has courted controversy; the host of The Penuel Show is well-known for his provocative takes on race, religion, and the ANC government. However, this latest "war room" scenario marks one of his most dramatic departures from standard political commentary.
