Nigeria π³π¬ Nollywood Actress Angela Okorie Bailed on a bail of N5m.
Relief was felt among some quarters of the Nigerian entertainment industry when a Federal High Court in Abuja gave Nollywood actress Angela Okorie, a N5 million bail. The actress is now in charges with respect to the alleged cyberbullying of her colleague, Mercy Johnson-Okojie.
After the case was heard by Justice Emeka Nwite, she made her ruling in favor of the application taken by the defendant and in the case highlighted the basics of the legal system.
Justice Nwite pronounced his mindedness to grant the bail on the ground of justice, since the prosecution did not provide any overwhelming evidence to make a case that the accused is likely to abscond the bail. He also added that discretion to give bail should be done judiciously and judicially at all times.
Although the court has conceded to allow Okorie to be set free temporarily, the bail is put with strict conditions to see her appear to stand trial:
On bond of N5 million and one surety.
The surety has to be a Level 13 civil servant.
The surety has to provide an affidavit of means, evidence of their initial commissioning and their most recent promotion letter.
Okorie and her surety are required to submit current passport sized pictures.
The court registrar has a mandate of confirming the residential address of the surety.
.
The ruling will have no consequences, as the actress will stay in the Suleja Correctional Centre until she passes all the administrative requirements of her bail.
The tussle in court is not yet fought out since Justice Nwite has set the case aside till March 23, when the trial shall start. The case has continued to receive great publicity, signaling the growing juridical examination of the behavior of social media and online harassment on the Nigerian celebrity scene.
