Final Farewell to an Urban Legend: DJ Warras Laid to Rest (South Africa 🇿🇦)

 

 The vibrant rhythm of the city paused on Tuesday as friends, family, and the South African music industry gathered to bid a final farewell to Warrick Stock, the beloved broadcaster and deck-spinner known to millions as DJ Warras.

Stock was laid to rest on December 23, 2025, following a somber and emotional funeral service that celebrated a life cut tragically short. The 40-year-old veteran DJ was gunned down in broad daylight on December 16, a day meant for celebrating reconciliation that instead became a day of mourning for his fans.

The service reached its emotional peak as the coffin was led out of the church toward the crematorium. Tearful family members leaned on one another for support, voicing their final goodbyes as the procession moved through a crowd of somber colleagues from the entertainment industry.

"He wasn't just a DJ; he was the heartbeat of our afternoons," said one colleague outside the service. "To lose him like this, in the middle of the city he loved, is a wound that won't heal quickly."

The motive for the attack remains a central focus for authorities. On the afternoon of December 16, Stock was exiting Zambesi House, a prominent building near the Carlton Centre in the Johannesburg CBD.

 Stock was approached by three suspects as he reached the street level.

 Witnesses described a brief confrontation before shots were fired.

 The suspects fled the scene on foot into the dense holiday crowds of the CBD.

While the funeral provided a sense of closure for the family, the search for justice continues. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that they are reviewing CCTV footage from Zambesi House and surrounding businesses near the Carlton Centre. No arrests have been made at this stage.

As the industry mourns, DJ Warras leaves behind a legacy of high-energy broadcasting and a significant contribution to South African urban culture.
