South Africa ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ : Shebeshxt Remains Jailed as Court Hears Shooting Victim Was in a Coma

Controversial musician Lehlogonolo Chauke, known by his stage name Shebeshxt, remains in custody following disturbing revelations during his bail application in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.

The investigating officer in the attempted murder case, Warrant Officer Phaladi Makola, testified on Thursday, providing grim details about the condition of the man allegedly shot by the musician on October 19.

W/O Makola informed the court that the victim was in a coma for four days and remains hospitalised due to the injuries sustained in the shooting.

Makola, who is part of the Limpopo police investigating unit, also confirmed a critical piece of evidence: the "Lekompo" hitmaker does not possess a valid firearm licence.

Shebeshxt returned to court to face nine charges, including attempted murder, assault, and possession of an unlicensed firearm, stemming from an incident earlier this month where he allegedly opened fire on fans in Polokwane.

According to Makola’s testimony, the incident began when two occupants of a Nissan attempted to greet Shebeshxt, who was driving a blue VW on Witklip Street in Ladanna.

The officer detailed the musician’s alleged aggressive reaction, stating Shebeshxt reportedly retorted, “Kgane a le tlale ka nna,” which translates to "You don’t respect me or don’t know who I am."

Makola told the court that moments later, with the vehicles side-by-side:

“He fired a shot at the occupants. The bullet hit the rear window, hit the headrest of the driver and hit the passenger on the cheek,” Makola testified.

The driver managed to take the injured passenger to the hospital, but the firearm allegedly used in the crime has not yet been recovered.

Shebeshxt, represented by his lawyer Lot Ramusi, is seeking R50,000 bail. He insisted he is not a danger to the community, is the sole breadwinner for his unemployed parents and partner, and has no intention of interfering with witnesses.

“I will comply with court orders. I won’t interfere with the evidence or contact witnesses. I don’t know who the witnesses are,” he told the court. “Even if I get to know them, I won’t interfere. I am not a threat to the community.”

The court also heard that despite the severity of the charges, some complainants visited the police station on Thursday to withdraw their statements, stating they no longer wished to pursue the case. The State, however, is still opposing the bail application.

Shebeshxt remains in custody. The matter has been postponed to December 8 for the continuation of his bail hearing.
