South Africa ๐ฟ๐ฆ: Trump Bars South Africa from 2026 G20, Accusing Government of 'Killing White People'
In a dramatic escalation of diplomatic tensions, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that South Africa will not be invited to the 2026 Group of Twenty (G20) Summit in Miami and immediately ordered a halt to all payments and subsidies to the country.
The move, announced in a social media post, came in the wake of the recent G20 Summit hosted by South Africa, which the United States boycotted. President Trump leveled serious accusations against the South African government, claiming they refuse to address "horrific Human Right Abuses" against white minority communities.
In the post, President Trump used inflammatory language, alleging violence and land grabs:
“The United States did not attend the G20 in South Africa, because the South African Government refuses to acknowledge or address the horrific Human Right Abuses endured by Afrikaners, and other descendants of Dutch, French, and German settlers. To put it more bluntly, they are killing white people, and randomly allowing their farms to be taken from them.”
He further criticized major U.S. media outlets, including the New York Times, for allegedly failing to report on what he termed a "genocide."
In addition to the human rights allegations—which the South African government has historically dismissed as baseless—Trump cited a diplomatic protocol dispute as the final trigger for the exclusion.
The President claimed South Africa refused to hand over the G20 Presidency to a senior representative from the U.S. Embassy at the closing ceremony of the summit, which was the first ever held on the African continent.
“Therefore, at my direction, South Africa will NOT be receiving an invitation to the 2026 G20, which will be hosted in the Great City of Miami, Florida next year,” he stated.
The President concluded his post with a stark warning, asserting that South Africa is "not a country worthy of Membership anywhere" and confirming the immediate cessation of all U.S. financial support.
The decision marks a significant diplomatic setback for South Africa, which took over the G20 presidency on December 1, 2024, and hosted the leaders' summit in Johannesburg. The U.S. is scheduled to host the 2026 G20 Summit in Miami, Florida.
