Nigeria π³π¬: Falz Demands Full Disclosure After Tinubu Announces Rescue of 38 Kwara Kidnap Victims
Nigerian rapper and social activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has publicly challenged the presidency, demanding specific details surrounding the rescue of 38 worshippers abducted from a church in Kwara State.
The artist's call for transparency came hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced on Sunday that all 38 victims, who were kidnapped from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, had been safely recovered by security forces.
The President’s Statement and Falz’s Query
In his official statement, President Tinubu confirmed the victims' release, attributing the success to the coordinated efforts of the nation's security agencies. The President also confirmed the partial recovery of students abducted in a separate attack in Niger State, reaffirming his commitment to national security.
However, Falz took to his social media handles to question the lack of operational details, a common critique against government handling of security crises.
"We are happy the 38 Kwara worshippers are back. But the question remains: Were they RESCUED or RELEASED? Were the kidnappers apprehended? Were ransoms paid? The country deserves answers to know how its security forces are operating," Falz wrote, echoing sentiments of many concerned citizens.
A Pattern of Activism
Falz's demand is consistent with his long-standing role as a voice of dissent and a champion for government accountability in Nigeria. He has previously been outspoken on issues ranging from police brutality (a key figure in the #EndSARS movement) to the ongoing insecurity challenges across the nation.
His query highlights a critical point of public discourse: while the release of victims is celebrated, citizens often demand more clarity on the process—specifically to understand if the rescue operations deter future crimes or if de facto ransom payments continue to fuel the kidnapping industry.
Rescue Details Remain Sketchy
The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in his own statement, also confirmed the freedom of the 38 worshippers, crediting President Tinubu's "hands-on approach" and the security agencies.
However, neither the Governor's office nor the Presidency has provided detailed accounts of the rescue operation—including the location of the recovery, whether a gun battle occurred, or if any arrests were made. This lack of detail is what continues to fuel the skepticism expressed by Falz and others.
The 38 worshippers were abducted during a prayer service at their church earlier in the week, an incident that tragically resulted in the deaths of three other members.
The rescued victims are reportedly undergoing medical checks before being reunited with their families.
