Kenya πŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺ: Mike Sonko Urges Men to End Gender-Based Violence, Calls for Dialogue and Peace

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has issued a strong public appeal to men across the country, urging them to actively abandon Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and instead prioritize dialogue and peace in their intimate relationships.

The politician, known for his charismatic yet controversial public presence, delivered the message during a recent public appearance, emphasizing that violence is never the solution to relational conflicts

Sonko stressed the importance of communication as the bedrock of healthy partnerships. He implored men to manage their anger and frustration constructively, rather than resorting to physical or emotional abuse against their partners.

"A man's strength is not shown by how hard he can hit, but by how softly he can speak and how wisely he can resolve issues," Sonko stated passionately. "We must choose dialogue. We must choose peace. Let us end this culture of violence in our homes."

His call comes amidst ongoing national campaigns aimed at reducing the high rates of domestic and sexual violence reported across the country. Advocates often highlight the critical role men must play in actively promoting non-violence and challenging harmful traditional beliefs that perpetuate GBV.

While Mike Sonko has faced criticism regarding various aspects of his political career, his recent advocacy on social issues, particularly GBV, has garnered attention. Public figures speaking out against domestic abuse are seen by activists as crucial in shifting societal norms and encouraging victims to seek help.

His message aligns with broader national efforts aimed at fostering healthy masculinity and encouraging men to take responsibility for creating safe and peaceful domestic environments.
