South Africa: Penny Ntuli Addresses Backlash Over Controversial Roadside Video
Radio personality Penny Ntuli has responded to the public uproar following a viral video showing her and a friend twerking on the side of a busy highway.
The clip, which circulated widely across social media over the weekend, depicted Ntuli and a companion dancing on the roadside of the N3 South near Escourt, KwaZulu-Natal. The video drew swift and heavy criticism from viewers, who condemned the act as reckless and irresponsible.
In a video posted on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the Jozi FM presenter attempted to clarify the situation and address the backlash. "I wasn’t apologising for twerking on the road, but I wanted to clear the air and explain why we did it," she stated. Ntuli explained that the roadside dance was meant to be a moment of "lighthearted fun" and that she never intended to cause any harm or offense by sharing the content.
However, her response appears to have intensified the criticism. Many social media users found her explanation to be dismissive and disrespectful rather than a genuine apology, sparking a new wave of debate about her actions.
Ntuli, who previously garnered public attention for speaking out about her salary dispute with Gagasi FM, now finds herself at the center of a different kind of controversy. Despite her attempt to justify the video, the ongoing backlash suggests that the public remains unconvinced by her explanation.
