Sol Phenduka Sacked by Kaya FM Following Minnie Dlamini's R2.5M Lawsuit
Popular radio personality Sol Phenduka has been fired from Kaya FM following a lawsuit filed by actress and television host Minnie Dlamini. The dismissal comes after an internal review by the station into comments made by Phenduka on the podcast Podcast and Chill with MacG.
According to a statement released by Kaya FM, the decision to terminate Phenduka's contract was a result of his "unacceptable" and "misogynistic" remarks about Dlamini, which were deemed "inconsistent with the respect owed to women." The station's management stated that Phenduka had previously given a written assurance in 2023 that such conduct would not be repeated, making the recent incident a serious breach of his contract.
The controversy originated from comments made on Podcast and Chill, where Phenduka is a co-host. Minnie Dlamini has since initiated a R2.5 million lawsuit against the podcast and its hosts for hate speech, harassment, and unfair discrimination.
Phenduka, who was the co-host of the #SizTheWorld breakfast show with Sizwe Dhlomo, had been suspended by Kaya FM in August while the station investigated the matter. The station’s acting managing executive, Dave Tiltmann, stated that “Trust, integrity, accountability, respect, and inclusivity are the foundations of Kaya 959. When conduct falls short, we act decisively.”
Phenduka confirmed his departure with a brief post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "They fired me." His former co-host, Sizwe Dhlomo, expressed regret over the decision but acknowledged the circumstances, saying, “He brought a lot of value. It was also just good to work with him. Really unfortunate chain of events.”
