Wizkid Backed Tyla on "Dynamite" Before Her Global Rise
In a recent interview with Capital XTRA Breakfast, Tyla opened up about the origins of "Dynamite," revealing the song's lengthy journey to release. The track was initially crafted in 2022, a testament to its long incubation.
"With 'Dynamite,' I made [it in] 2022," she shared, emphasizing its infectious energy: "Yeah, it’s a banger. You know with bangers, I don’t really like explaining songs, like it says what it means. I’m excited about it. I feel like I needed to let out that one.”
What makes the collaboration particularly significant, Tyla explained, is that Wizkid lent his talent to the track at a time when she was still a relatively unknown artist.
“It was very exciting, you know, ’cause at the time I was very new, like a lot of people didn’t know me, so I didn’t expect him to be down for a session," Tyla recounted. "But he was. And he liked some of the stuff I played him that I made at the time.”
Following their joint recording, Tyla held onto the demo for three years, a period she spent privately enjoying the track and hoping for its eventual release. "I was sitting on that demo for three years, just playing it and dancing in my room. Just praying to God like, ‘God, one day the song is gonna come out’. And it’s coming out,” she expressed, celebrating the culmination of her patience.
