South Africa: DJ Warras Levels Serious Allegations Against Durban Police and Questions High-Profile Arrests

Popular media personality DJ Warras has ignited a firestorm of debate online with explosive claims that certain Durban police officers are on the payroll of drug lords and criminals. His accusations, made during a recent episode of Podcast Party SA, also took aim at President Cyril Ramaphosa's leadership and raised skeptical questions about recent high-profile arrests, including those in the DJ Sumbody murder case.

Warras asserted that Durban's Point area is a notorious hub for drug activity, and he believes authorities are deliberately ignoring it. "If you’ve been to Durban and you go to Point, it’s been overrun… heavy Nigerian presence. It’s well known that there’s drugs that move there, well known that there’s other crimes, and those police that we spoke about that are on the levels E and D are well paid by these guys to leave them alone," he stated in a widely circulated clip.

Conversely, Warras lauded General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and his team for their unwavering stance against corruption, noting, "When they come in there, there’s no talk of bribes. There’s no talk of ‘we’ll pay you to go away’. They clean up."

He didn't spare President Ramaphosa from criticism either, lambasting the decision to launch a commission of inquiry in response to Mkhwanazi's revelations, rather than taking immediate action. "The man is saying he’s got the WhatsApp conversations between him and this individual, and the answer by Number 1 and our government is, ‘Let us discuss it over the next six months.’ What the hell?" Warras exclaimed.

Furthermore, Warras expressed skepticism regarding the recent breakthroughs in long-unsolved cases, particularly the murder of DJ Sumbody. "In the last six days, that matter has turned into murderers we couldn’t catch for years… now three or four of them have been arrested. Did they just happen upon this information, like all of it? Did police really get good at doing their jobs in the last 6 days? I refuse to believe," he questioned, suggesting that the sudden progress was suspicious.

DJ Warras's bold remarks have sparked considerable discussion on social media, with many users weighing in on the state of policing and corruption in South Africa.
