Davido Sparks Outrage with "Happy METAL" Post on X

Afrobeats superstar Davido is facing significant backlash following a controversial post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that many users have deemed as promoting cultism. The singer's tweet, simply stating "Happy METAL," ignited a firestorm of criticism, with fans and critics alike expressing their disappointment and concern.

The controversy appears to have escalated from an earlier exchange. User @vardysteveayo had initially criticized Davido, stating, "Davido Dey overdo atimes sha. 'yeah we good now' is ok tbh I love Davido and all that. But I'll say it again he's always overdoing atimes." To this, Davido

responded with a dismissive, "That one nah ur papa business," a reply that seemingly fueled further resentment.

The "Happy METAL" tweet then drew strong condemnation. @topsytpf

accused Davido of "promoting cuism on a very big platform...like he's the only artist to be a cu:':-t..still can't believe people call him their 001, no stil of self control?"

Similarly, @kellybankk expressed disbelief, tweeting, "I still can't believe Davido opened his eyes to tweet this, in a country where cut:- n have taken more lifes of our youths than anything else. Only you G....ng, politics, dr is, scams, and cultism." @YABALEFTONLINE also weighed in, stating, "Today he's actively encouraging and promoting at."-m smh. as for una wey be real fan make una continue dey defend some nonsense shey ee gbo."

The incident has opened up a wider conversation about the responsibility of public figures and the potential impact of their social media presence, especially in a country grappling with issues like cultism among its youth. Davido has yet to issue a further statement regarding the backlash.
