Charly Boy Responds to Bariga Bus Stop Renaming After Olamide

Veteran Nigerian entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has reacted with apparent indifference to the Lagos State Government's decision to rename the famous Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga. The bus stop has been officially redesignated as Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street, honoring the prominent indigenous rapper.

When contacted by GistLover on Saturday for his thoughts on the development, Charly Boy offered a terse, "Na dem sabi," a Nigerian Pidgin English phrase that translates loosely to "They know what they are doing" or "It's their business," signaling a dismissive or unbothered attitude.

The renaming was part of a series of changes to road and landmark names announced during the inauguration of newly completed projects in the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Friday. The outgoing LCDA chairman, Hon. Kolade David Alabi, confirmed that these initiatives were among his final acts in office, intended to celebrate notable Nigerians, particularly those from the music and sports sectors.

Among the other significant road name changes in the area are:

 1. Ilaje Road is now King Sunny Ade Road, in tribute to the iconic Juju music legend.

 2.  Bariga Road has been renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, honoring the current President and former Lagos Governor.

 3. Community Road in Akoka is now Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road, after the incumbent Lagos State Governor.

4.  Ifeanyi Street becomes Abolore Akande (9ice) Street, in recognition of singer 9ice.

 5.  Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak, has been renamed Tony Tetuila Street, celebrating the veteran Afro-pop artist.

 6. Ilojo Crescent in Obanikoro now bears the name Bukayo Saka Street, recognizing the English football star of Nigerian origin.

The renaming initiative aims to immortalize figures who have made significant contributions, reflecting a broader trend of acknowledging cultural and sporting heroes within Nigerian communities.
