Veteran South African Actress Meme Ditshego Dies at 60


 

South Africa is mourning the loss of veteran actress Meme Ditshego, who passed away on Wednesday evening, June 25, 2025, at the age of 60. Known for her iconic roles and celebrated comedic talent, Ditshego's death was confirmed by her agency, Eye Media Artists Talent Agent, in a poignant statement released on Thursday.

"It is with deep sorrow and reverence that we announce the passing of Meme Ditshego, a beloved South African actress, legendary comedic talent, and a true veteran of our screen and stage," the statement read. "She was a pioneer of performance — a woman whose vibrant spirit, sharp wit, and undeniable presence brought life to every role she played."

Ditshego's career spanned decades, making her a household name across South Africa. She was widely recognized for her portrayal of Josephine Ratau in the popular SABC2 sitcom Ga Re Dumele, a role she captivated audiences with from 2010 to 2013. Her talent also shone as Joyce Mlambo in The Coconuts, and she most recently appeared as Teresia’s mother in the series Cobrizi, which recently faced another loss with the passing of its lead actor, Presley Chweneyagae.
