Peter Okoye Responds to EFCC Claims of Lying: "I Am Not May D or Cynthia Morgan"

A new wave of controversy has been sparked on social media by Nigerian musician Peter Okoye, better known as Mr. P of the P-Square combo, openly retaliating against allegations that he lied to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In a series of scathing tweets, Okoye strongly refuted the allegations, reaffirming his moral character and setting a clear boundary between himself and former colleagues.

The singer's passionate response follows an unsubstantiated allegation that he gave the anti-graft agency misleading information, which he blames on attempts by a "publicist" to tarnish him.

Peter Okoye said in a tweet that received a lot of attention almost after, "That's exactly what I was talking about: their publicist is trying all in his power to make me appear dishonest. I am PETER OKOYE, the Okoyes' rock/okwute, and neither Cynthia Morgan nor MayD are who I am. The truth will undoubtedly win out. The popular hashtags "#UnaThiefAbiUnaNoThief" and "#FamilyDoesNotStealFromFamily," which he used to emphasise his remarks, subtly connected the charges to a lingering family conflict.

The question "#UnaThiefAbiUnaNoThief," which means "Are you a thief or are you not a thief?" seems to be a direct challenge to the people who are accusing him, implying a more complex story of financial misconduct in a family setting.

Okoye went on to discuss his renewed determination to face problems head-on, pointing to the untimely passing of fellow artist Mohbad as a turning point in his thinking. "I made the decision that I would never pretend to be mature or play the bigger person after seeing everything that had happened since Mohbad's death.

And that's precisely what started all of this chaos. Just because I was attempting to act like a grownup and be the larger person! Omo! Never again," he posted on Twitter.

This statement implies that he has given up on past attempts at making amends or keeping his personal and professional conflicts under wraps. "So love me or hate me, I will continue speaking my truth!" he said, capping his stubborn position. #FamilyDoesNotStealFromFamily #UnaThiefAbiUnaNoThief."

A short breakup of their hugely popular P-Square group resulted from the well-documented history of familial and professional conflicts between the Okoye brothers, Peter and Paul (Rudeboy). Even though they have subsequently reconciled, Peter Okoye's recent tweets suggest that underlying problems can still exist, especially with regard to money and public opinion.

Regarding the suspected incorrect information that Peter Okoye gave and the details of the investigation that may have resulted in such accusations, the EFCC has not yet made an official statement. Supporters and admirers are keeping a close eye on the situation and are excited to see how this most recent public statement plays out.
