Ayra Starr Gains Newfound Respect for Actors After Acting Debut in "Children of Blood and Bone"

Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer Ayra Starr is opening up about her recent acting debut in the upcoming American fantasy film Children of Blood and Bone, revealing a profound new respect for the acting profession.

In a recent interview with CBS, the music sensation shared insights into the transformative experience, noting that it demanded a higher level of discipline and work ethic than she was accustomed to in the music industry.

"It [Children of Blood and Bone] is my first movie ever," Starr stated. "You know, I'm used to being a singer and diva on set, but this one with the movie is like, it's not about you. You've to be on set on time. So, it made me get used to military time and working hard. I respect actors so much more now. Their stamina is impeccable."

Starr, known for hits like "Rush," also shared that acting has always been a personal ambition. "Acting is something I have always wanted to do. I love music, but I’ve always loved acting. I’ve always been shy when it comes to acting. But this is the first time in my life that I’ve been on camera and I’m not singing. It was amazing. I learned so much from everyone, not just the greats."

The highly anticipated film is an adaptation of the bestselling novel Children of Blood and Bone by Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi. It is being helmed by renowned director Gina Prince-Bythewood.

The movie boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring celebrated actors such as Damson Idris, Tosin Cole, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, and Thuso Mbedu.

Children of Blood and Bone is slated for release by Paramount Pictures on January 15, 2027.
