After being charged with assault in 2023, Chris Brown was granted bail in London; his tour is anticipated to continue.
A London judge today granted American musician Chris Brown bail after he was accused with causing grievous bodily injury in connection with a 2023 nightclub assault.
The singer is now able to move forward with his eagerly awaited global tour, which includes performances in the UK. Charges against Brown, 36, are related to what authorities say was a "unprovoked attack" on music producer Abraham Diaw two years ago with a bottle of tequila. Judge Tony Baumgartner granted Brown bail and established terms for his release even though he was not present at Southwark Crown Court....
The musician must pay the court a large £5 million security deposit. To enable his release, £4 million was paid in advance on Wednesday, and another £1 million is due in a week.
If he breaks any of the conditions of his bail, this security, which acts as a financial guarantee for his appearance in court, might be revoked. Brown's passport must be turned in under the terms of his bail, unless he is going on tour. In addition, he must live at a certain address that the court is aware of, is not allowed to go to the nightclub where the alleged incident took place, and is not allowed to get in touch with Diaw or seek for new international travel permits.
Brown's scheduled tour, which includes dates in the UK in June and July as well as other places in Europe, the US, and Canada, is anticipated to proceed despite the grave accusations. Brown has not yet pleaded guilty to the accusation. On June 20, he and his co-defendant, 38-year-old US national Omololu Akinlolu, are expected to make another appearance at Southwark Crown Court.
