Verydarkman Claims EFCC Arrested Terry Apala a Day After "Cease and Desist" Letter Over Extortion Allegations
Social media personality Verydarkman has alleged that musician Terry Apala was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) just a day after the artist issued him a "cease and desist" letter. Verydarkman made these claims in a series of Instagram posts and a video shared with his followers.
According to Verydarkman's Instagram statement, Terry Apala had given him 48 hours to apologize for a video he made concerning alleged extortion by the EFCC. Verydarkman stated that Terry Apala claimed his video contained lies and demanded a retraction. However, Verydarkman then claimed that the EFCC apprehended Terry Apala today, questioning the timing and suggesting his information was accurate.
In the accompanying video, Verydarkman reportedly discussed receiving a letter from the EFCC inviting Terry Apala for questioning, dated February 11, 2025. He further broadened his accusations, alleging that the children of Chief Rasaq Okoya had committed similar offenses but had not faced EFCC scrutiny. Verydarkman insisted that the EFCC should address the alleged actions of the Okoya children before pursuing his own case.
Meanwhile, the EFCC has released an official statement confirming the arrest and arraignment of Terry Apala. According to the EFCC, Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, ordered the remand of Terry Alexander Ejeh, also known as Terry Apala, in a Correctional Centre on Friday, April 25, 2025.
The EFCC stated that Terry Apala was arraigned on a one-count charge of allegedly mutilating Naira notes during a social event on January 5, 2025, at La Madison Place, Oniru, Lagos. The charge specifies that he tampered with Naira notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by marching on them, an offense punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
Terry Apala pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecution requested a trial date and for the musician to be remanded in custody. The defense counsel filed a bail application and requested a short date for its hearing, assuring the court of Terry Apala's presence, noting his recent arrival from the United Kingdom on April 23, 2025, and his voluntary appearance upon EFCC invitation.
However, the prosecution opposed the bail application, deeming it "alien and unheard of." Justice Aluko ultimately refused the defense's initial request for release pending the bail application hearing.
This series of events, beginning with Verydarkman's allegations and culminating in Terry Apala's arrest and arraignment, has drawn significant attention online, raising questions about the timing of the EFCC's actions and the veracity of Verydarkman's initial claims. The case is expected to continue with the hearing of Terry Apala's bail application.
