Nigerian Rapper Eedris Abdulkareem Reveals N200 Million Bribe Offer Amid Song Ban
Veteran Nigerian rapper and activist Eedris Abdulkareem has alleged that he was offered a staggering N200 million bribe to continue criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration through his music and public statements. The claim was made on his social media page, where he detailed an encounter with an individual claiming to be a senator.
According to Abdulkareem, the supposed senator, who claimed to be in a meeting with Seyi Tinubu, the president's son, and other government officials, offered him financial support in exchange for his continued criticism of the government. Abdulkareem rejected the offer outright, warning the caller to stay away from him.
The incident is linked to Abdulkareem's recent protest song, "Tell Your Papa," which sharply criticizes the Tinubu administration. The song was banned by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on April 10, sparking widespread backlash from civil society groups and artist associations.
The ban has been condemned by several organizations, including the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) and Media Rights Agenda (MRA). PMAN argued that the ban could inadvertently increase the song's popularity amid Nigeria's economic challenges, while MRA described the move as an abuse of regulatory power ¹.
