Widow Disputes Friend's Account of Mohbad's Final Days, Accuses Him of Spreading Lies

A bitter dispute has erupted over the circumstances surrounding the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad, with his widow, Omowunmi, vehemently denying allegations made by a close friend of the late artist, known as Spending.

Spending has publicly accused Omowunmi of fabricating stories about Mohbad's final moments, claiming her media interviews are filled with falsehoods. He alleges that their relationship was "toxic" and that she mistreated the singer.

In a detailed account, Spending described an incident on September 10, 2023, where he claims Omowunmi argued with Mohbad, threatening to ruin his career. He also refuted her claims of administering first aid, stating that another friend, Bami, provided the treatment. Furthermore, Spending questioned the significance of a "white item" placed on Mohbad's coffin and pointed out inconsistencies in Omowunmi's statements regarding a nurse's visit.

Mohbad, who passed away on September 12, 2023, and was subsequently exhumed for an autopsy, has become the center of a swirling controversy, with his death sparking widespread calls for investigation.

In response to Spending's accusations, Omowunmi took to social media to defend herself. She acknowledged an argument with Mohbad on the day in question but clarified that it stemmed from a dispute he had with a friend, not from their personal relationship. She denied making any threats and insisted that their relationship was "beautiful."

Omowunmi further accused Spending of spreading lies for financial gain and under external pressure, suggesting that his statements were influenced by the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and by individuals who "contributed money for [him] on a TikTok platform." She also alleged that there were plans to coerce the nurse who attended Mohbad to provide false testimony.

"You know my husband and I had a beautiful relationship, Spending you know! Your reason for peddling lies is what is beyond my comprehension!!!!!!," she posted.

Omowunmi vowed to no longer remain silent, asserting that she would "assert her position" and not be bullied. "If you come 10 times, I, Omowunmi will come 25 times," she declared.

The ongoing dispute highlights the deep divisions surrounding Mohbad's death and raises further questions about the events leading up to his passing. The investigation into the singer's death remains ongoing.
