Mercy Chinwo Files Billion-Naira Lawsuit Against VeryDarkMan for Defamation
Gospel music sensation Mercy Chinwo has initiated legal proceedings against social media commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM), seeking over N1 billion in damages for alleged defamation. The lawsuit follows VDM's recent online accusations regarding Chinwo's professional conduct.
The dispute centers on claims made by VDM that Chinwo withheld performance earnings and breached contractual obligations with her former record label, EeZee Conceptz, under the direction of Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu (EeZee Tee). Chinwo's legal team has strongly refuted these allegations, labeling them as "libelous, malicious, spiteful, malevolent, and grossly defamatory."
According to court documents, Chinwo asserts that VDM, despite having no direct involvement in her contractual matters, disseminated harmful and unfounded statements that damaged her reputation. Her lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, argues that VDM's actions were reckless and injurious.
Chinwo's lawsuit demands substantial compensation, including:
N1 billion in general damages to address the harm caused to her reputation.
N100 million in punitive and aggravated damages to penalize VDM for his actions.
N25 million to cover the legal costs incurred in pursuing the case.
A formal public apology and retraction of the defamatory statements.
The removal of all defamatory content from VDM's social media platforms.
The publication of retractions in four national newspapers for 14 consecutive days.
By pursuing this legal action, Mercy Chinwo aims to send a clear message that she will not tolerate the spread of false information intended to tarnish her image and professional standing. The lawsuit underscores the serious consequences of making unsubstantiated claims against public figures.
