Cynthia Morgan Sparks Online Debate, Claims Tinubu's Government "Isn't the Worst" but Calls for Urgent Economic Relief
Singer Cynthia Morgan, also known as Madrina, has ignited a social media debate by asserting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration is not the "worst" in Nigeria's history, while simultaneously urging him to address the nation's economic hardships.
Morgan's comments come amid heightened public scrutiny of the government's economic policies, particularly following a viral video by an NYSC member expressing frustration over rising living costs. The NYSC member's criticism, and subsequent claims of threats from officials, sparked widespread reactions.
In contrast, Cynthia Morgan took to her Instagram Story, referencing Max Siollun's book "Soldier of Fortune," and encouraged Nigerians to consider past leaderships before making definitive judgments. While acknowledging the current economic challenges, she emphasized that Tinubu's administration is not without precedent.
However, Morgan did not shy away from criticizing the government's decision to remove fuel subsidies, calling it a "terrible move." She stressed the urgent need for economic relief, suggesting that reducing fuel prices would alleviate the financial burden on citizens.
"Tinubu is not the most terrible president Nigeria ever had but nevertheless removing 100 percent on subsidy was a terrible move," Morgan wrote. "It is not too late to do something though, at least if fuel is 500 the cost of living will reduce."
She advocated for a gradual approach to subsidy removal, coupled with infrastructure development, comparing the abrupt change to "a baby going from milk to yam in just a day." Her comments have sparked a range of reactions online, with some agreeing with her historical perspective and others focusing on the immediate economic challenges facing Nigerians.
