Yemi Alade and PSI Nigeria Join Forces to Break the Silence on Menstrual Health

Population Services International Nigeria (PSI Nigeria), a leading global health organization, has teamed up with renowned Afrobeats star Yemi Alade to launch a groundbreaking campaign aimed at addressing menstrual health and hygiene. The campaign, which includes a short film, a music single, and a music video, seeks to challenge societal taboos and promote positive attitudes towards menstruation.

The short film, titled "Time of the Month," is a powerful narrative that blends storytelling and music to raise awareness and dispel myths surrounding menstruation. The film features a stellar cast of Nollywood actors, including Aisha Lawal, Liquorose Afije, Mary Njoku, Ibrahim Suleiman, Mike Ezuruonye, and Femi Branch.

Pritpal Marjara, a representative from PSI Nigeria, explained the rationale behind choosing Yemi Alade as a partner. "Yemi Alade's credibility, relatability, and dedication to women's health make her an ideal collaborator for this campaign," Marjara said. "We believe that this partnership will have a significant impact on how menstrual health is perceived in Nigeria."

By combining the power of entertainment and advocacy, PSI Nigeria and Yemi Alade aim to break the silence surrounding menstruation, empower women and girls, and create a more inclusive and equitable society.

She quotes: “Nigerian celebrities are believed to be significant influencers. They have, on several occasions, shaped Nigerians’ perceptions, and partnering Nigerian artists will significantly shift public perception of menstrual health in Nigeria.”
