Meghan Markle and Prince Harry matched their outfits for a special reception during their second day in Nigeria
After visiting Nigeria Unconquered, a national charity partnered with Prince Harry's Invictus Games, on Saturday, May 11th, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex proceeded to a reception for military families and widows' association at the Defense Headquarters Officers Mess in Abuja. During this event, they also revealed a new rehabilitation center.
For the occasion, the pair coordinated their outfits, both opting for linen attire. Meghan dazzled in a St. Agni white strapless linen dress, while Harry sported a cream linen suit.
Hosted by General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defense Staff, the event provided an opportunity for the couple to engage with families of servicemen and women.
Shortly after taking their seats, the couple, along with everyone else, stood to listen to the national anthems. The ceremony commenced with "God Save The King," during which the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stood in attention. Harry maintained a forward gaze and kept his arms by his side throughout the anthem. Following the British anthem, the Nigerian anthem was played.
Throughout the series of speeches, Abike Dabiri Erewa, the chairperson of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, sparked broad smiles from Meghan and garnered applause from the audience by declaring: "Princess Meghan is one of us!"
She expressed that she wasn't taken aback when Meghan revealed her Nigerian heritage on her podcast. "I was thrilled but not shocked. She embodies beauty, intelligence, diligence, and resilience in the face of adversity," she remarked. She also added, "Prince Harry, you married the best — our daughter, our friend, Princess Meghan. I hope you return many times in the future."
And she didn't forget about Harry, stating: "Princess Meghan, you chose the finest man."
As a previous leader in the British Armed Forces and the inaugural supporter of the Invictus Games, a global sports event for wounded, injured, and sick military personnel, supporting veterans and their families has always been a priority for Harry.
During his speech, Harry expressed his deep appreciation to the Chief of Defense Staff and the Defense Minister. He remarked, “Your warm welcome and enthusiasm have been truly extraordinary.”
