The 2024 AMVCAs are sparking debate online as Funke Akindele's critically acclaimed movie, "A Tribe Called Judah," went unrecognized.
The 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) elicited varied responses, particularly due to actress Funke Akindele's film 'A Tribe Called Judah' failing to secure recognition. This occurred during the 10th edition of the AMVCA, which convened at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos on Saturday.
The focal point of discussion during the event centered on Funke Akindele's significant cinematic work, "A Tribe Called Judah," which faced considerable criticism. Conversely, "Breath Of Life" emerged as the dominant force of the evening, securing six awards, notably including Best Movie, Best Sound Design, Best Director (BB Sasore), Best Lead Actor (Wale Ojo), Best Supporting Actor (Ademola Adedoyin), Best Supporting Actress (Genoveva Umeh), and the Trailblazer award (Chimezie Imo), as reported by DAILY POST.
Conversely, "A Tribe Called Judah" achieved the milestone of becoming the first Nigerian film to gross over N1 billion at the box office in December of the previous year. However, despite this achievement, the film faced disappointment as it failed to secure any of the five nominations it received. The failure of this highest-grossing Nigerian movie, as anticipated, has incited a surge of activity and discussions on social media platforms.
