Actor Segun Arinze advises EFCC to adhere to proper procedures in prosecuting Yahaya Bello.

Nollywood actor Segun Arinze has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure that it observes proper procedures when prosecuting the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

The anti-corruption agency is pursuing legal action against Bello, along with his nephew, Ali Bello, Dauda Suleiman, and Abdulsalam Hudu, on 19 charges related to money laundering amounting to N80 billion.

In a video posted on his Instagram account, Arinze expressed his opinion that the current trial of Bello on social media is unwarranted.

He encouraged the EFCC to adhere to proper legal procedures and allow the law to proceed accordingly.

He remarked, "I have been closely monitoring the developments surrounding the EFCC's case involving Yahaya Bello, and it has been quite sensational. Initially, the EFCC made numerous public statements on social media and in the news regarding the alleged arrest of Yahaya Bello and the significant amount of dollars he purportedly deposited into his children's school account. It's insufficient to merely assert that the funds originated from the government, but if proven, it's incriminating."

I'm neither affirming nor denying Yahaya Bello's innocence or guilt. I lack detailed information on the matter. However, what concerns me is the role of social media. Unless you've experienced scrutiny on social media firsthand, it's difficult to comprehend. There's an abundance of opinions circulating on social media, fueled by updates from the EFCC, which generates negativity from all angles.

What I'm emphasizing is that social media does not serve as Nigeria's judiciary. It lacks the authority to render judgments. As far as I'm aware, the case is already before the courts. Therefore, my advice is for the EFCC to adhere to proper procedures. Let the legal system run its course. This is solely my personal viewpoint.
