A new regulation by the FG prohibits Nollywood films from featuring money rituals, smoking, or crime scenes.
During a National Stakeholders Engagement on Smoke-Free Nollywood on Wednesday, May 22 in Enugu, Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director/CEO of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), reportedly announced that the Federal Government has authorized the banning of money rituals and the public display of vices such as smoking in Nollywood movies.
Stating his case, the NFVCB boss emphasized that the step was aimed at sanitizing the sector by preventing the public display of crimes.
This decision comes after recognizing the potential negative influence on young audiences, who make up a significant portion of Nollywood viewers. Smoking scenes, in particular, raise health concerns.
The NFVCB emphasizes their commitment to a thriving film industry and seeks collaboration from parents, guardians, and stakeholders. They plan to launch awareness campaigns across various institutions to promote positive messaging and discourage harmful content.
